Beers from Kingston
on the rise
By JIM GORDON
You
could call it a home-brewed business.
It started when a biochemistry student
gave his father, an attorney, the gift
of a home brewing kit. “And I liked it
so much I went back and got myself one
and that was the beginning of it,’ said
Tommy Keegan, 38, founder, CEO and brew
master of Keegan Ales, which now markets
beers throughout New York state and operates
a popular brew pub in Kingston.

Assembly
energy chief sees opportunities
By JIM GORDON
Energy,
the economy and the environment have
perhaps never been more inextricably
linked than now, as 2009 starts with
plenty of potential and peril for all
three sectors. But therein lies opportunity,
says state Assemblyman Kevin Cahill,
chairman of the state Assembly Energy
Committee, who is confident that the
trio of issues can form a powerful synergy
to benefit New Yorkers.

Thoughts on kick
starting an economy
By JIM GORDON
With
a federal economic stimulus package of
about $750 billion being discussed for
release in 2009, Democratic New York
legislators from the House of Representatives
are pushing an array of approaches to
spark spending. Their priorities include
traditional road and bridge infrastructure
improvements, but with additional spending
on mass transit as a key part of the
package. And properly done, they say,
the stimulus can also improve the environment
and even education.

William
Weinstein
A point to make
By KATHY KAHN
William Weinstein has
two passions: One is for making people
feel better through the art of acupuncture:
“The Chinese didn’t know the specifics
of our central nervous system; they perceived
the human body as a river, with many
branches flowing from it, and developed
acupuncture by the way water flowed as
a model.” His other is bike riding: “Carbon
free, user friendly and lets you see
the world as it was meant to be seen.”
